Abstract
A scheduled and unscheduled power outage in developing countries is a common problem due to rising load demand, insufficient power generation, and a lack of power quality infrastructure. Therefore, backup power systems are widely used as a common alternative. This chapter proposes a supervisory control strategy with hardware realization for the grid-connected solar photovoltaic-based microgrid system. The objectives of the proposed microgrid system are to increase the utilization share of solar power, provide an uninterrupted power supply, reduce the stress on the utility grid, and ensure backup power. The proposed scheme is realized through simulation and hardware-in-loop. The proposed system presents a satisfactory performance in terms of effective solar energy usage and storage. It also feeds the excess solar power to the main grid with a customized low-cost microgrid system.
