Abstract
This paper presents a terahertz (THz) on-chip antenna based on the concept of microstrip feed for quad-band wireless applications. The Planar structure is chosen for the sake of circuit integration with other active components. A 40- μm FR-4 substrate is used for the design of the proposed antenna with a partial ground plane and a modified rectangular patch with a T-shaped slot is etched to achieve the desired performance. The partial ground plane reduces the back radiations of the antenna and introduces additional reactance which is responsible for the wide bandwidth. Simulation is performed using CST MWS where the reflection coefficient, voltage standing wave ratio, gain, surface current, and radiation pattern are analyzed. The dimensions of the antenna are 250×220×40μm3 which provides quad bands with the resonance frequency of 0. 3THz, 0.7THz, l.lTHz, and 1.7 THz with a maximum gain of 2. 7dBi, 3.3dBi, 6dBi, and 4.7 dBi respectively. The proposed THz antenna resonates at quad-frequency bands which are promising for short-range wireless communication.
