Abstract
The paper presents an experimental investigation on estimating the residual mechanical properties of Thermo-Mechanically Treated (TMT) steel bars under combined effect of corrosion and high temperature. In the test program, TMT rebars of grade Fe 550D are exposed to different levels of corrosion up to 30%, through accelerated corrosion, and elevated temperatures range from room temperature to 900 °C. Further, the mechanical properties of the corroded and pre-heated rebars are tested through tensile tests at room temperature. Based on the test results, the effect of corrosion and elevated temperatures on the behavior of steel bars was found to be deteriorated significantly, particularly on the yield stress and ultimate strength, while no significant reduction was observed in the elastic modulus. The results of the experimental investigations were well documented in the paper.
